Choosing the Perfect Colors for Your Boudoir Session

HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT COLOR FOR YOUR BOUDOIR SESSION

The design of my studio is simple. The idea is to have a neutral space that lets you shine through and be the star of the show!

White and black outfits look beautiful and classic in the studio space. It's a very clean and elegant look.

That being said - color pops so beautifully in this neutral studio! I recommend you bring at least one colorful outfit!

But how do you choose what color to bring for your boudoir session? Here are a few of my best strategies for selecting the perfect color for your boudoir session.

WHAT DO PEOPLE COMPLIMENT?

Have you ever had someone tell you a color looks good on you? Perhaps a stranger has even complimented you before when you were wearing a certain color. That color is a good one to consider bringing to your boudoir session.

WHAT COLOR DO YOU LOVE?

Is there a color you just like to wear? Maybe it makes you feel happy or beautiful? That's a good color to consider bringing to your boudoir session.

WHAT COLOR DOES YOUR PARTNER LOVE YOU IN?

Your partner knows what your color is. Trust me. Just ask them if you aren't sure.

Ms. C's fiancé loves her in red. Of course, he was onto something. The change in her attitude and confidence was incredible when she came out in this red set!

JEWEL TONES

The secret to choosing a great color if you have no idea what you look good in is to try jewel tones. These tend to be universally flattering and a good place to start when in doubt! It should be pretty easy to find lingerie in some of these colors. If you're struggling, check out Adore Me!

CONTRAST

Another thing to keep in mind when selecting colors is contrast. If you want a color that will pop in your photos, choose something with contrast to your skin tone.

In the first photo below, while Ms. C looks beautiful, the bodysuit she's wearing doesn't provide a lot of contrast because it's nearly the same color as her skin. The second photo provides a lot of contrast since the dark green is so different from her light skin tone. They result in very different looks.

COLORS TO AVOID

In general, I recommend avoiding neon colors. They have a tendency to look out of place in my studio and are not necessarily flattering on everyone.

CONCLUSION

Whatever color you choose, make sure you feel good in it.
