WHAT NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY
Maybe you've never done a boudoir photography session before and you aren't really sure what to expect. That's completely normal. Most of the women I photograph are in the exact same boat.
If this is you, here are a few things you should probably know before your session that nobody tells you about boudoir photography.
IT'S REALLY NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU WEAR
While it's important to know how to dress for your boudoir session, at the end of the day, these photos are more about you than what lingerie you've chosen to wear.
It's true that there is a difference between $100 and $20 lingerie, but you don't have to shell out a fortune on high end lingerie to love your boudoir photos.
The best thing you can do when it comes to choosing outfits is to follow your photographer's advice on what to wear so your outfit looks good in the photos.
Be sure to choose pieces that compliment you and your body rather than over the top pieces that will steal the show. These photos are about showcasing YOU not the lingerie.
You could simply bring your favorite bra and panty set, an oversized button down, and use my white bedsheet to have an incredible boudoir session. It's not about what you wear.
SOME BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHERS SUCK
This is an unfortunate truth. Not all boudoir photographers are created equal.
It absolutely breaks my heart to hear stories from women who had not only poor boudoir experiences, but experiences that actually hurt their confidence and self image. That's the opposite of the goal with boudoir, but if you don't have a good boudoir photographer that can unfortunately be the outcome.
Everything from lack of professionalism and encouragement to novice posing and angles can ruin your experience when you don't choose a good boudoir photographer.
With boudoir, you usually get what you pay for. Boudoir photography is a luxury service that requires a different skillset from other portrait photography. Boudoir photographers charge luxury prices because they've invested the time and energy into learning their craft so they can provide you with an experience that uplifts rather than tearing down.
When you choose to invest in a boudoir session with a good boudoir photographer, something amazing happens. You realize that you believe in yourself and care enough to invest in yourself. That decision improves your confidence (even before you see the photos) because you're literally showing yourself that you think you're worth it. And YOU ARE!
YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR PART
Boudoir photography is a powerful art form, but it isn't magic (even if it sometimes feels like it!). If you aren't happy with the way you look, I can pose you in flattering poses and lighting, but at the end of the day, I'm not changing anything about your body and the photos will still look like you.
I always ask that you be gentle with yourself when you see your photos. Don't say anything about yourself and your body that you wouldn't say to your best friend. Try to view your photos from the perspective of someone who loves you as much as you love your best friend.
The reality is you may not absolutely love every photo. And that is ok. You'll probably love most of them!
PLEASE STRETCH
Regardless of how much you work out and how strong you are, you're going to be sore and maybe even a bit stiff after your session. I'm going to be asking you to bend and use muscles that you probably don't often use. If you need to stop in the middle of your session and stretch it out - don't wait for permission! I'll probably even stretch with you.
Pro-tip: stretch and book a massage after your session!
YOU'RE GOING TO FORM A FRIENDSHIP
If you've chosen your boudoir photographer wisely, you'll be forming a relationship with them. Boudoir photography is an intimate art form and you don't want to feel like your photographer is a stranger. Good boudoir photographers have a plan in place to help you feel comfortable with them and by the end of the session, they should feel like a friend.
I love to meet new people and make new friends. If you choose me as your photographer, please know that I genuinely adore you and want the best for you. I'd absolutely love for you to keep in touch after your session. Follow me on Instagram and reach out anytime! I also love to follow you and smile and cheer at all the good things that are happening in your life!
THE BEST WAY TO SAY THANK YOU...
If you've had an amazing boudoir photography experience, there is nothing your photographer wants more than to know how much you loved it and how much it helped you.
Google reviews and referrals are absolutely priceless and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it when my Rosewood ladies leave good reviews and send their friends my way.
