WHERE YOU SHOULD DO YOUR BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

When it comes to choosing a location for your boudoir photography session, my best recommendation is to follow the advice of the photographer you choose!

It's their job to provide, recommend, or find a location for the session. And I'll let you in on a secret: at the end of the day, these photos are about you. Not the location you choose for your session!

That being said, here are some of the most common locations where you should do your boudoir photography session.

YOUR HOME

Some boudoir photographers make house calls! While this is not a service I offer, I know of some boudoir photographers that will come to you and photograph you in the comfort of your own home.

Pros: You may be more comfortable in your own space than in a new location.

Cons: The lighting may not be great in your home and you have to clean before your session.

HOTEL ROOM

Some boudoir photographers work with hotels for their boudoir sessions. Some even have worked out a discounted room rental rate since they only need the space for an hour or so.

Pros: Hotel rooms are a clean and fully decorated space.

Cons: It's generally pretty obvious when you've shot in a hotel room in your photos and it may not convey the most high end look.

AIR BNB OR VRBO

Some boudoir photographers work with Air BNBs or VRBOs for their boudoir sessions. If this is their usual preference, they may have a few different ones they shoot at regularly.

Pros: These can be really unique locations that come pre-decorated. There's also a lot of variety so you can find a place to use that suits your personality and provides beautiful light. You also have a full home to shoot in!

Cons: Many hosts don't like to rent out their homes to boudoir photographers. Sometimes it can be a challenge to find one that is willing to rent to a boudoir photographer.

PROFESSIONAL STUDIO SPACE

Some boudoir photographers rent a professional studio space for their boudoir sessions. Some even offer outdoor boudoir sessions if they are able to find a private and secluded location that allows boudoir!

Pros: Usually these spaces are beautifully decorated and versatile. You can also get a good idea of what to expect from your photographer's portfolio.

Cons: These spaces often come with additional fees and costs. Sometimes they are not decorated like a bedroom.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER'S HOME STUDIO SPACE

This option is the one I offer. I shoot all my boudoir sessions out of my exclusive and private home studio space. I have created a very simple and neutral space that minimizes distractions in your photos and let's you be the true star of the show!

Pros: You know exactly what to expect from your session because it will be consistent with your photographer's portfolio. It is very private and exclusive. It'll also feel as welcoming as going over to a friends house.

Cons: Not all professional boudoir photographers have a studio space in their home.

SUMMARY

You can have your boudoir session at a variety of places. It usually depends on which photographer you choose and what spaces they recommend. In general, you'll get the best results from following your photographer's lead!
